  1. Which of these mistakes have you made? I’ve been guilty of some of these myself in the past!
As with all my videos, I’ve included timestamps to you can refer back to later:
00:00 – Living room design mistakes
    00:29 – Doesn’t feel cohesive
02:11 – Not enough variation in your color palette
    03:52 – Matchy-matchy furniture
05:57 – Rug is too small
07:35 – Not enough breathing space
09:03 – No variation in your lighting
10:20 – Living room is boring
12:09 – TV is too high
13:05 – Pushing all the furniture against the wall
    14:15 – Keeping things you don’t like

    1. The too small rug. Question: what are some ways we can use our too small rug if we still really like it?

    2. I forget it’s not a lobby. I like convenience but I think symmetry and unity are impersonal and dated.

    3. @Anna W I had my 1st sense of design after my daughter moved out. Clothes and clutter were a constant battle.

  2. Are you not a fan of layered rugs? It can add much needed textures and be ultra chic if done right. It’s never boring but doesn’t need to be bold or aggressive. For example, I have a low pile 16×20 rust/orange/gold toned area rug topped with other assorted rugs. Under the coffee table is an extra plush cream shag carpet that’s great to sit on if you’re playing games with guests, sitting just under and in front of the big arm chair off to the side ( under a low-hanging oversized cylindrical beige linen lampshade) is a brown 4×3 chunky fringe leather rug. Finally along the other end of the room, stop but three inches from the edge one more rugs woven gold/beige/white chevron patterned rug placed parallel to and running the length of the sliding glass doors. Maybe too much for a small room and maybe my choices are a bit much for some but I think it adds valuable texture and makes everything look more inviting.

  3. Donating or selling unwanted, lightly used furniture is part of the whole reduce-reuse-recycle mantra! What might not work in your living might be exactly what someone else needs. It’s one less piece that someone else needs to buy new.

  4. I disagree ABSOLUTELY with the rug bit. Firstly: I refuse to have a rug I cannot chuck in the washing machine. Rugs can soon be really disgusting (check out this or similar channels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFK_JtJd-U8). So the rug cannot be that big.
I absolutely do not want a carpet I cannot clean more than maximum once a year and only during summer or I have to haul the heavy huge carpet to a cleaner and have them do it for a huge price. No. I absolutely prefer small carpets/rugs.
If its a colourful rug then its too much of a colour statement if its too big, it would dominate the entire room!
To have a small one underneath the living room table is not stupid. If you dont want to scrape the floor its great to have a carpet underneath a table. Easier to move and no scratched floor. I mean – I much prefer cleaning a floor to hoovering/vacuuming it all the time. Hoovering means hauling out a huge bit of machinery and then there is the cord…. No, I much prefer to take a mop and clean the floor. Weighs nothing and takes two minutes.

    Impossible with enormous carpet.
Also – if you have a huge carpet AND a family or visitors all the time – think of the WORK to clean it ALL the time, after every tea og wine spill, or kids running around with bits of food, or just you sitting down with chocolate on a Friday in front of the telly. All of this will inevitably stain, and with a carpet its just impossible to keep things clean without enormous effort.
I mean – thoughts about interior design is fine, but people have to actually live in it and it has to be practical

  5. Hi, will you do consultation via face Time or zoom , i m from Michigan and in need sole help asap , let me know ,thank you

  6. Ty. You.can always return. It has to actually be in the space before determining. If it’s not working try it in another room or move things around. Takes a little switching.
